Her Trajectory is a participatory project by Hong Zeng about female migration stories presented in the form of Internet art. The website programmed by Marius Richter visualizes the personal trajectories of women who experience immigration on the map of the world. By zooming in, each woman participant’s personal object will be featured, alongside with its story. Through this movement, this work invites viewers to transfer their perspectives from macro to micro, examining contemporary issues of immigration and identity by looking into each woman participant’s perception and affection of cultural differences.
Hong Zeng interviewed 16 woman who shared their migration story visualised over time. When clicking on one of the trajectories the persons most important and valuable item travels along their line. Hovering over the item enlarges it on the screen, while hovering over the dots tells the stories of the people at the places in time. The artwork invites the visitor to zoom in and dig into the journeys. The website is based on the p5js Javascript library together with HTML and has been crafted from scratch for this project.
