Long exposure photography visualizes weather data from the Hong Kong Observatory during the record- breaking severe tropical cyclone Mangkhut in 2018 using a custom-made programmable LED lighting stick. The previous image maps the recorded windspeed of the cyclone to the brightness of the vortex. The upper right image shows the recorded sea level the cyclone could have brought to the shore. The sites chosen are remote constructed barriers built to protect the city and natural landscapes. Both of them display the trace of the destructive power of Mangkhut. Yet the alarming data and these images call attention to our possibly false sense of security in Hong Kong.

Elements of the Future has been selected into the Microwave International New Media Arts Festival 2021 – Future Gallery exhibition.

The artwork has been exhibited in April 2019 at ‘Blown Away‘ in the Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts in Hong Kong.
